Nigeria is targeting the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after its men’s and ladies’s groups were both successful at the inaugural African Flag Football Championship.
The sporting activity is a non-contact variant of Football, where players require to pull a flag off the person with the ball as opposed to tackling their opponent to the ground.
Flag football will certainly make its Olympic debut at LA 2028 and, as African champions, both Nigerian sides have made straight qualification for next year’s Flag Football World Championships.
Oluwaseye Obatolu, the vice head of state of the Nigeria Football Organization (Nafa), defined the nation’s accomplishments in Egypt on Saturday as “deeply symbolic”.
“It was a minute of tremendous pride to be the very first [African] country, both men and women, to qualify for the Globe Championships,” Obatolu informed BBC Sporting activity Africa.
“Our focus now is clear – we are not simply going to the Globe Championships, we’re mosting likely to compete. Our eyes are securely established on Los Angeles 2028”
The initial African Flag Football Championship, which was arranged by the International Federation of Football (IFAF), featured a total of 11 groups from eight countries across the continent.
